Languages and tax
SmartPart is built to be sold in more than one country, which means two separate problems: the language a customer reads, and the tax a customer pays.
Languages
The site currently ships in five:
| Language | Code | URL |
|---|---|---|
| English | en | /docs |
| Nederlands | nl | /nl/docs |
| Deutsch | de | /de/docs |
| Svenska | sv | /sv/docs |
| हिन्दी | hi | /hi/docs |
English is the default and has no prefix; every other language carries its code as the first segment of the path. A page therefore has a stable, linkable address in each language, and search engines are told which addresses are translations of one another.
Switch language with the translate button in the menu toolbar. You stay on the page you were reading — the switch is a move to the same route in another language, not a return to the home page.
Because the language is in the URL, you can link somebody straight to the
version you want them to read: send them /de/docs/getting-started and that is
what they will open, whatever their browser is set to.
A page that has not been translated yet is shown in English, with a note saying so.
Tax
Tax is configurable rather than assumed. VAT, GST, sales tax and custom models are all expressible, and the rules applied to an order depend on where it is being sold and delivered.
Prices shown in a configurator include the tax treatment for the region being served, so the figure that moves as you configure is the figure you will be asked to pay.
